A re-introduction (For Featured Grown Ups)
There is a new host for Featured_Grownups who asked that we re-introduce ourselves. It's been longer then I care to admit since I've done a featured_grownups post, and for some reason I've had trouble trying to write this post.
I've been on Xanga for what seems like forever-2003. I got my username because I'm a huge fan of Ohio State Football and 31 was the age I was at the time I started my Xanga. To answer your question-no, I did not go to Ohio State for college, but I think they put something in the water here that makes you an Ohio State fan.
I found Xanga from a reality tv message board that I used to go to all of the time. Some one asked the question: Do you blog? I didn't, and checked out all the sites that were listed. I liked Xanga the best-it had a lot of features that the others didn't. I've seen Xanga grow and change a lot over the years. When I first started they had guestbooks, and review sections-I miss those! There were no footprints, and friends didn't start until Myspace appeared on the scene. There was a lot of drama when the friends module appeared on the Xanga scene. When I started blogging the only way you knew someone had updated their site was to go there..the universal inbox had yet to exist, and there was no reply, edit or delete keys on posts. All of which are great improvements, but I wasn't too sure of them when they appeared.
I've somehow gotten off track-back to who I am. Much to the chargin of my mother and grandmother, I am still single and am the oldest of 2 sisters-both of whom have gotten married within the last 2 years. Dealing with boys in the family has been a hard adjustment, even though I couldn't ask for better brothers in laws. I've learned this important lesson: My sisters will defend them till they are blue in the face over the stupidest things. I'm learning to keep my mouth shut in my critcisms of them.
I work in what was my familys supermarket-we sold it 5 years ago for a variety of reasons. Another independent grocery store owner bought it, and is a pretty good boss. My dad is the store manager, and for some reason people seem to think that I'm second in command-first when he's gone. I still see myself as one of the guys. My official title is Receiving Manager. Most of the time I love my job, but some times the drivers make me crazy. The supermarket industry is still a male dominated world. About a year ago I got the title of Wine Manager. This was by default-the old manager quit, and since I checked in the wine and did the pricing it somehow became my area. It's been a slow, but interesting learning process.
I'm a huge fan of reality tv and an avid reader. I've recently started really getting more involved in the online world of book reviewing-there are a lot of talented reviewers out there! Right now I'm involved in an Everything Jane Austen Reading Challenge. The goal is to read 6 Jane Austen books or themed books/movies by January 1st. I had no idea there were so many books based on works before this challenge! My books are: 1. Persusasion 2. Tea with Jane Austen 3. Jane Austen ruined my Life 4. Confessions of A Jane Austen Addict 5. What would Jane Austen do? 6.Austenland. To further torture myself I've added these books to the list in case the others don't work out: Jane and the Unpleasantness at Scargrave Manor. (This is a Jane Austen mystery series!) and Seducing Mr. Darcy. This book just arrived from the library-and honestly, I'm not sure if I'm going to get through it all...
I feel like I'm forgetting something else, but I think this will do for a start on my re-introduction.

I remember the old days of Xanga. Aah, memories. I still refuse to change over to their new format. I always keep the old one. Thank you for the re-introduction. :)
I think everyone should reintroduce themselves! I learn something new every time one of these types of posts are up even from my subs of many years.
I think I liked it when we had to actually visit Xangan blogs to read them. The new module/home pages sets all the subs right up and nobody visits anyone else's site anymore so many think nobody's reading them.
They are right. These re-introducing posts are interesting. Always finding out new stuff.
Uuuugghhh Supermarket industry... 18 years of my life sucked dry. What a world.. Good re-introduction!
Oh I remember most of that! Like you, I was skeptical of some of those "new" features, but now wouldn't want to live without them! Although, if you ask me (and you didn't, but IF you did) I'd cancel the "reply" on the comments. Although it's neat, it does keep people from actually going over to your blog site to comment (I know this because it's what I was doing for awhile!). That means less comments (if you're into that) and therefore, less traffic (again, if you're into that kind of stuff, which I used to be). Confused? me too! I was really glad that you stopped by and that you are still blogging! Gonna sub today! Hugs~Jeri
I miss the old Xanga too.
Anyway, you're one of the Xangans I really wanna meet in person, C.
SERIOUSLY.
You must have been here on xanga for a very long time. You seem to have an interesting life, I love the way you re-introduced yourself.
I have the book Persuasion, but I can't really understand it. The way the sentences were constructed makes me confused. I shall try and read it when I get older though.
I just joined Xanga a couple years ago so I never saw something change drastically. Reading you re-introduced yourself is enjoyable as to know how it will turn out :)
Hmm... I have a Jane Austen theme book too but it's not fiction. It's a non-fiction , a dating book, inspired and adopted from Jane Austen's fictional characters. She wrote about what we learnt from all those characters when it comes to dating (which is surprisingly good, not a typical dating book since the author claimed she was from UK and didn't fond of American dating style.)
And I just found out not long ago that Jane Austen was never married. LOL. Ironic as it seems...but I guess some dating tips in there somewhat work :P
I miss the reviews section, too. I actually had a whole bunch of reviews on there... I don't know where they are now.
I joined because my friend was like, "You should join Xanga; I know you'll love it!"
I actually do like the friends and Xanga credits you can have now, even though it seems to produce unnecessary drama sometimes.
Supermarkets sell wine in Ohio?
Here you can't even buy beer in a supermarket!
i actually remember the story behind yer usernom
also, the review sections are still around, just only on the old system - i use them, but recently, they've been on the fritz
and guestbooks have been turned back on in classic
@Kalligenia - I tried the old format, but after using the new one for so long I missed the updates part of it!
@Lenore_Happenstance - I always learn something new from intro posts-we have been subbing for a long time now, haven't we?
@FogOfConfusion - I've been meaning to get back to you..regarding the review thing-just write what you thought about the book-whether you liked it or hated it.
@MomGoneMadd - I think the supermarket industry is sucking me dry, and I was raised in it. (I can't escape it now-I've tried.)
@Jeri_Dee - I have mixed feelings about the reply key. I've been using blogger a bit, and have found I really miss that option..but it does force you to visit others sites, which is sadly lacking sometimes on xanga.
@bella_esperanza - We will have to meet one of these days. Some day I'll save up enough money to come your way!
@bottledsunshine - I couldn't read Jane Austen or any of the classics when I was your age. It wasn't until my mid 20s that I began to really appreciate them.
@starrynite45 - How is the dating book? I was tempted to add that to my Jane Austen reading list. Thanks for helping me out with the picture links. I still haven't had time to play around with them yet.
@heidenkind - You can only buy wine and beer, and certain types of low proof vodka in supermarkets. You have to go to state liquor stores for the good stuff. My sister lives in PA and has to go to bars to buy beer-not sure where they buy wine.
@mr_faust - I am going to have to check out the old format to see what kind of reviews I had on here. I hope your hiatus isn't too long.
@mr_faust - For the life of me, I couldn't find the reviews on the old system.
@buckeyegirl31 - I enjoyed reading it. There are quizzes about which dating in Jane Austen's style are you and such and you know I am suck at doing quiz lol. Plus, the cover is adorable. I'll find the title & author of this book.
